Environment:

This client is live with Epic 2015 and continuing to work on a number of rollouts and mergers of different epic systems.  The current focus is within the revenue cycle team with a particular focus on the billing, professional billing, and HB sides.  They need a very senior operations billing expert that knows their way around all of the HB and PB areas with a specific expertise in curriculum and training development of operational billing and Epic billing.

Project:

This expert will have both a training and building curriculum background with a particular focus on operations billing areas of Epic.  This means the person will understand all the backend, hands on transactional operational billing efforts that take place in the hospital and professional billing areas.  Second to this the person must have been a trainer/mentor and developed training/course materials to support the Epic billing areas, this will include all levels of instructional design, and helping to develop an actual training program.

As a hospital and professional billing expert, this persons knowledge of daily billing execution must be very well rounded in the following areas; Medicare, regulations, patient accounting, operational billing, operational billing workflows, insurance, insurance billing, cash postings, denials, billing follow up, refunds, insurance regulations, etc.  The idea of how to work accounts, where in epic to navigate, and how to use epic correctly in order to support the navigation of these accounts.

From the Epic side this person needs to be well versed with HB and Professional billing, if they are certified or credentialed that is a great plus, but the idea is to be an operational expert with billing first, know how to develop training and curriculum second, and lastly know all the billing functions within Epic to create strong materials.  This person needs to know how to build classroom training around all the above areas mentioned, create curriculum around Epic HB and PB in order to mirror how things are done operationally, they must know how to develop training programs and how to set things up.  As a training expert this person must know how to apply extensive operational knowledge to how to develop and use Epic correctly.  If the person has never done extensive hands on curriculum development for HB and PB they will not know how to help at the same time if they don’ t know all the operational billing details listed above they will now know how to create materials on how to execute the actual billing.  The eventual goal is build a training pogrom that walks a fine line between knowing billing and all the moving parts above with Epic being the specific billing program in use.
