IDS/IPS MCAFEE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Job Description:

The contract provides Computer Network Defense and Analysis (CND) to the customer’ s network.  Because the customer allows their user community to access their personal email accounts while on site, there is a lot of spam hitting their network regularly.  This contract is responsible for the 24 x 7 x 365 protection of the customer’ s network from maliciously intended viruses and attacks on their network.  The contract is broken down into two teams, the IDS Analyst team that sits at HQ and the Engineering team that sits in Herndon.  As part of this they are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with McAphee and Virtual Cloud experience.

 

Day to day Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the overall technical guidance and leadership for cloud migration initiatives.
  • Support the Systems Engineering team to move existing security applications into a Virtual Private Cloud hosting platform.
  • Assess the application' s cloud suitability as it relates to security, resiliency, and performance requirements of operating within the cloud environment.
  • Provide SME level-consultation with the project team and end users to identify application runtime environments and perform feasibility analysis on potential product changes related to security architecture.
  • Work closely with management to develop future plans and schedules and provide input into customer presentations  and Engineering Review Boards.
  • Assist in potential refactoring, rebuild, or redesign required during cloud migration activities.

Required skills:
  • 10 years of Systems experience
  • IDS/IPS McAfee Engineering experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux (RHEL, CentOS) environments and be able to build, configure, and maintain via Command Line Interface (CLI)
  • NW Load Balancing
  • Excellent knowledge of core communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, HTP/S and building application-specific protocols on top of them

Desired Skills:
  • IBM and CISCO
  • Virtual Private Cloud experience 
  • In-depth understanding of underlying storage for Linux (LVM) and storage network protocols such as NFS and CIFS
  • Although much of the work is accomplished in a Windows environment, the successful candidate should have knowledge of both UNIX and Linux.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of enterprise-wide cyber systems and networks.
