UX engineer

Program and Job Description:

The program that supports the customer' s Mission Business Systems and their mission is to develop these business applications for their user community.  They are following an Agile Development methodology.  The program has two distinct development efforts, one is using Java for the back-end development on a Solaris platform and the other is a Ruby on Rails middle and front end layer development effort on a Windows platform.  They have an Oracle Database and both development efforts are moving to a Linux platform very soon.  As part of this effort, they are looking for two Software Developer that can come in and be part of a 10-15 person development team that takes the technical design and works to customize the already existing code.

Currently the program has three deployed applications that they are responsible for and two of them are very big applications.  Totaling thousands of users. These are mission essential applications that are used daily.  They currently use Agile methodology and are working with 3 week sprints to production.  The applications already exist but we are constantly adding tons of new functionality to it.  They  are also looking at changing some of the underlying architecture soon. This has created a need for a UX engineer.

Day to Day responsibilities:

This person will come in and understand requirements and understand how information is displayed on the screen to users and customer. They will work to  create “ moc-ups” and work with Web Design and be the actual designer of the Moc up as well as the screen display. This person will have worked as a UX engineer and work user interface (UI) as well. This is predominantly a UX role.

They will have to be able to demonstrate success in executing a human-centered design process on projects as well as demonstrate success creating and clearly communicating via abstract diagrams and models of user journeys, tasks, work, goals, application flows, information, decisions, product wireframes, service blueprints, and mockups. This person will also demonstrate success illustrating an organized user interface that was derived from user research insights. Lastly this person will Skill in conducting user research and design exercises, such as field observations, user interviews, focus groups, design brainstorming, contextual inquiry, design studios, and card sorting

 

Required Skills:
  • UX Engineering experience
  • Web Design
  • design artifacts via common design, illustration, and prototyping software
  • Skill in communicating ideas and intentions clearly in writing and orally
  • Ability to work comfortably amid ambiguity, uncertainty, and incomplete information
  • Ability to coach others through a design process, design methods, or specific activities like brainstorming
  • Agile Scrum experience
