Epic MUMPS Developer
HCIT Web Services Application Developer
Project Overview: The client is a large health system with 20+ hospitals. They are doing a lot of custom development work within the Epic space and integrating from Epic to and from 3rd party systems. For that reason, they are looking for a strong Developer both within the Epic space and with the integration from Epic to other systems.
Job Duties: The consultant hired will be working within a technical team consisting of strong developers both within the Epic space and outside of the Epic space. The person hired will need to have very strong communication skills as part of this job is to take “ non-technical” requests/orders from operational employees at the hospital and deliver the technical solution based on that request.
An example: The Nursing Informatics Director could come up to this person (or the consultant’ s manager) and make a request to integrate some data that is stored within a 3rd party data set/warehouse/system and they’ d like to have that connected to Epic.
Some of these requests are simple and have a seemless integration to Epic. However, some of these requests require custom web service development. For that reason, they are looking for someone that has strong Epic MUMPS/Cache development experience, but beyond that, they are looking for a strong software developer that can create custom integrations between the Epic EMR and 3rd party applications. So experience doing SOA/API and web service development is almost as important (if not more) than experience doing MUMPS development.
The consultant hired will have the MUMPS development experience and can sit in front of the MUMPS terminal and do the development, but they should ideally have experience doing application development (and custom application development) for non Epic applications (i.e. other EMRs and HCIT applications. Strong communication skills are also required as their will be a lot of interaction with operationally focused employees and taking the orders from them before translating those orders into technical specs.
